As the dredging and demolition works progress, Operational Drafts are updated at the Ports of Paraná

Through Ordinances No. 203 and 204 of 09/14/2022 and 207 and 208 of 09/26/2022, some operational parameters determined by the Traffic and Permanence Rules were updated by the Managing Director of the Ports of Paranaguá and Antonina. The updates were approved by the Captaincy of the Ports of Paraná (CPPR) and expand the operational capacity of the terminals in Paraná.

- Surdinho Channel (Ordinance No. 203/2022): changes the operational draft of Surdinho Channel (alternative access to the Port of Paranaguá) for Vessels up to 200 meters of LOA, to 11.70 m (without tide) and 12.50 (with tide).

- Berths 209 and 211 (Ordinance No. 204/2022): changes the operational draft of berths 209 and 211, from 11.30 meters to 12.50 meters.

- Galheta Channel (Ordinance No. 207/2022): changes the operational parameters determined by the Traffic and Permanence Rules for Access to the Galheta Channel and Docking of Vessels in the Galheta Channel, from 12.50 m to 12.80 m, for Vessels with an LOA of up to 245 m.

- Berths 212, 213 and 214 (Ordinance No. 208/2022): changes the operational parameters for berths 212, 213 and 214 of the West Export Corridor, establishing a maximum operational draft of 12.80m.

Regarding the updated operational parameters for berths 212, 213 and 214 (West Export Corridor), the estimated gain is over 2,100 tons of grain per ship. That is, more than 600 thousand tons per year, for an average of 285 ships.

Another direct impact is on navigation safety, especially for bulk carriers with a maximum length (LOA) of up to 245 meters.

The Administration of the Ports of Paranaguá and Antonina (APPA) reminds that this is an intermediate increase. The forecast is that, with the end of the removal of a submerged rock peak, the access channel to the port of Paranaguá will reach a draft of 13.5 meters. Then, with a new phase of sediment removal, within the deepening dredging campaign, reach 15.5 meters.

Currently, the demolition is in the final phase of removing and processing the rocky material at the bottom of the bay, with the stones being transformed into gravel. Deep dredging awaits definition regarding the concession of the access channel to the private sector.
